It was good to get out

Decided to see if there was anything worth shooting over at the Forest Grove “Arboretum”, such that it is. Funnily enough, one of my best shots was from my iPhone (and my best iPhone picture ever) before we even got out of the car:

Of course I was none too amused that it started raining pretty hard just after arriving but it let up quickly enough.

The arboretum isn’t particularly thrilling and there just weren’t a lot highlights with almost everything being so dormant but I did manage to get a few good shots:

Even better though, having to really look for something to shoot and actually coming up with shots I liked reminded me just how much photography really makes you stop and look. Stop. And. Look.

And in other news, working with all these photos and viewing a ton of other photos on Flickr today showed me just how out of whack the color/contrast/brightness/gamma settings were on my TouchSmart display. Took some time and got that sorted out. “Green” still isn’t quite right but I’m not quite sure what it needs to bring it up to snuff. Another little task for another time, I suppose.

Abandoned! ;-)

Well, it seems I've abandoned my livejournal, damn twitter -- which I'm liking more and more (this sums it up pretty well) ... And IRC (#plone) to some extent too... anyhow, I am going to blogging more / again but it won't be here. You can find me blogging about plone (of course), music, tv, etc over here: http://blog.darci.hanning.name/ sorry, make that http://darcilicious.hanning.name -- I'll try to get back to at least READING here but I've got a lot on my plate just now...

Backing up LiveJournal

So far I have downloaded (but not yet tried) ljArchive and ljbackup. Feedback? Other suggestions? I have my original journal and my current journal to back up. I think at the end of the month I will have been on livejournal seven or eight years... I don't particularly want lose my entries should the worst happen.

Week in the Life (Day 1)

I don't have anything special going on but I have been meaning to take/share more photos so I'm going to give this one a shot :) Here are the rules:

1. You must take between 6 and 8 new photographs per day.
2. Your WITL must be consecutive. No skipping days.
3. You must post your photographs at the end of that day, some time after the last picture is taken.
4. Each photograph must have the time taken and a title, with no other explanation. (Discussion in comments is fine and encouraged.)

(These are not great quality -- they're just from my iPhone which isn't the best camera ever, even by mobile standards ;-) They're not cropped but I did adjust the color/exposure on most.)

Just in case... if there's anyone out there that doesn't have a Netflix account and would like a free month trial version here's the link. Netflix is doing a heavy promotional stint at the moment and normally only offers free two-week trials. I'm fairly certain the free trial period includes access to their streaming content as well (dial-up users probably won't want to try it though).

Full disclosure: I'm a current customer of Netflix and may receive up to five bonus rentals if you use the above link. I've been an on-again, off-again customer of theirs since they opened for business. I love their service :)
